Get out of my head!

Tapping into your creative side is often one of the most difficult tasks to undertake. This infographic shows some useful techniques to help you do it.

Creativity is a big word, a mystical word, and an overused word. But it’s also one of the keys to  solving the problems we face as companies, professionals, cities–as a society. Here’s an interesting infographic that shows one process for bringing creativity to life in the process of developing new products.  I do see a few areas in this process that could be better addressed, such as more attention focused on defining a problem in different ways so as to maximize the breadth of ideas generated, which at first may seem irrelevant, but ultimately have great potential.

Also I believe that there needs to be more and earlier effort given to making models, prototypes, and mock-ups of ideas. Part of the creative process is trying things and failing. This leads to new questions being asked, new attempts at finding truly unique answers, and even possibly finding that the original problem isn’t the real problem needing solved. Yet there needs to be some sort of structure in place for which this creative thinking can take place, and this infographic at a minimum shows what that form could take.
